Mastiff Hope Programs
Rescue and Placement
Our primary program is the rescue and placement of English Mastiffs, or Mastiffs, in need. We do our best to accept dogs regardless of age, health issues, or background. While we cannot accept dogs with known aggression issues, we do our best to work with owners to help them determine and work through the underlying problems that may enable them to keep their dog. We thoroughly screen all adopters to ensure that the homes our dogs are going to will be their ‘forever’ homes. The last thing we want to do is have to move a dog from one home to the next - it’s difficult on everyone involved, but in particular, on the dog. Therefore, we do our best to make a perfect match every time between family and dog.
Mastiff Hope Medical Fund
The Mastiff Hope Medical Fund is designated to provide for the medical needs of the Mastiffs we take into rescue. Many rescues do not accept dogs with medical needs - we do our best to accept and help those dogs that others may turn down. Medical needs of rescued Mastiffs can vary, and include, but are not limited to, vaccinations, heartworm testing/treatment, testing and treatment of tick-born diseases, neutering, allergies, physical ailments requiring surgery such as broken legs, ruptured ACLs, etc. The list goes on and on. Some treatments are a ‘one-time’ fix, others require long-term (up to and including life-long) treatments and medications. Through this fund, we do our best to help as many Mastiffs as possible live a healthy and happy life for whatever time they have. At this time, we can only use these funds for Mastiffs in our adoption program, but at some point, we would like to be able to issue ‘grants’ to needy Mastiff families feel they need to turn their family pet over to rescue because they cannot afford to treat their pets.
Mastiff Education
While we in no way proclaim ourselves to be Mastiff experts, we do feel that we are fairly experienced with the breed. We do our best to educate future and present owners who come to us for help and advice. Being in the rescue and Mastiff worlds, we have access to many other Mastiff-experienced people, and are always willing to solicit advice from those who have experienced the same sorts of issues that we or someone else may be dealing with. If you have questions or concerns regarding a health or behavioral issue with your Mastiff, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help. There is no charge for this information, and we don’t guarantee we can help - we’re just offering a helping hand to a fellow Mastiff lover.
Rescue Referrals
We do not always have a dog in our program that is right for your family, or, we may know of a rescue program that is much closer to you geographically that may have dogs available for adoption. Contact us, and we’ll do our best to help you find one ‘closer to home’. Likewise, if you are looking to adopt a dog from another program but need a home visit and you are closer to us, have the program contact us, and we will do our best to assist. We want to see good dogs placed in good homes - we don’t get hung up on who actually makes the placement!
Rescue Transports
Occasionally, the right dog may be miles away from the right family. Many rescues are willing to adopt to families that are out-of-state or across the nation, they just have a problem with getting the dog to the people. Some rescues require that the adoptive families travel the entire distance to get the dog - which, in all rights, is completely acceptable if you are truly committed to the dog. However, sometimes it is nice if we can get some assistance in getting the dog to the adoptive family. Mastiff Hope will do it’s best to arrange a transport of a Mastiff to the adoptive home, but these transports are based solely on the generosity of volunteers along the entire route, and are by no means guaranteed. We will also do our best to assist other rescue groups with transports when the routes run through areas where we can help.
